The number of butterflies depends greatly on the weather, warm summer days bringing more butterflies, especially if the previous winter has seen heavy snow coverage. The largest butterfly that can be occasionally spotted in Finland is the African death’s head hawkmoth with wingspan that can reach up to 14 centimeters.
